What timeline should you expect ?

Numerous importers often discover they have only a vague understanding of the timeframe required to source and receive their products when procuring from other countries. This uncertainty stems from their prior experiences purchasing from local distributors or wholesalers, where timelines are seldom transparent.

Product Development :

Prior to initiating the sourcing process, product development is imperative. This phase, distinct from sourcing, aims to establish proof of concept and lay the groundwork for sourcing activities. Sourcing commences only after the completion of the product development phase. At this juncture, it’s crucial to have comprehensive specifications, packaging details, and other pertinent information ready to identify suitable suppliers. Procupro can support and guide you in this process but will not fully develop the products for you.

Identifying Suppliers :

Estimated time can take from 24h to 2 months. Locating and validating suppliers can be very lengthy particularly on complicated projects and is the biggest challenge for many of our customers. This step involves identifying suppliers best equipped to manufacture your product, confirming their legitimacy, and negotiating pricing, payment terms, and logistics. Depending on factors such as the engagement of experienced professionals, the complexity of the product, this process may require further support from third parties experts.

Securing Samples :

From 2 weeks to 3 months. Acquiring quality samples is often a prerequisite before commencing production. Apart from sample costs (which can sometimes be negotiated for large orders), the duration of this process depends on factors such as the product’s complexity, specificity of requirements, and efficiency of communication between our teams

Production :

From 2 weeks up. Once production authorization is granted and payment is made, the factory initiates setup, involving securing raw materials and arranging production space. While actual production time may be brief, setup duration varies depending on the product’s requirements. Some factories we work with also have lengthy waiting times that can push back certain customers to wait for several months.

Quality Control :

4-10 weeks. Once the goods are finished, the quality control begins before booking the shipment. Sometimes with partial deliveries, we can arrange quality control inspection companies such as SGS to run concurrently with production. Delays may occur if quality issues necessitate repairs or remaking the entire order.

Logistics :

Typically integrated into the sourcing process when buying directly from foreign sources, logistics negotiation includes factors like shipping terms (e.g., FOB), transit times (4-8 weeks for sea freight), and options for expediting (e.g., air freight, taking approximately one week upon booking).

It’s worth noting that for traditional products sourced from reputable manufacturers, production lead times should generally not exceed 4 weeks from contract to ex-works for non-OEM products.

It's important to note that these are broad estimates and timelines may vary based on the specific product and industry.
